When silence is golden...

Imām al-Shāfi'ī in Diwān al-Shāfi'ī :

When silence is golden

If a fool speaks to you than don’t respond
For silence for him is a response best
If you speak to him you relieve his burden
And if ignored he dies of constricted chest
